The Moluccan Cockatoo (Cacatua moluccensis), also known as the Salmon-crested Cockatoo, is a large and striking parrot native to the Seram archipelago in eastern Indonesia. It is one of the largest white cockatoos, known for its vibrant crest and affectionate personality.
Appearance
- Size: About 46–52 cm (1.5–1.7 ft) in length.
- Weight: Up to 850 g (1.87 lb).
- Color: Mostly white-pink feathers with a peachy glow.
- Crest: Large, retractable salmon-colored crest, raised when excited or threatened.
- Underwing & Tail: Slight yellow tint on the underside.
Behavior & Habitat
- Found in lowland forests below 1000 m.
- Highly social and intelligent, often forming strong bonds with humans.
- Has one of the loudest calls among parrots and is a capable mimic.
- In the wild, they consume seeds, nuts, fruits, and coconuts.
