Description

The Eurasian Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula), commonly known as the Bullfinch, is a small, stocky songbird belonging to the finch family (Fringillidae). It is native to Europe and Asia, often found in woodlands, hedgerows, and gardens.

Physical Characteristics

  • Size: About 14.5–16.5 cm (5.7–6.5 inches) in length.
  • Weight: Around 21–27 g (0.7–0.9 oz).
  • Coloration:
    • Males have a bright pinkish-red breast and cheeks, a grey back, a black cap and tail, and a white rump.
    • Females are less vibrant, with grey-buff underparts instead of red.
  • Beak: Short, thick, and black, adapted for cracking seeds.
  • Wingspan: 22–26 cm (8.7–10.2 inches).
